St. Charles pediatric rehabilitation program is recognized across the region as the leader in pediatric health care. With a 100 year history of rehabilitating children, our reputation for excellence in rehabilitating children is unprecedented.
Our inpatient pediatric rehabilitation unit is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the New York State Department of Health (DOH). In addition, St. Charles hosts the only inpatient pediatric traumatic brain injury unit on Long Island. Every child admitted to St. Charles for pediatric rehabilitation receives:
A child-focused approach. Our professionals are specially trained to serve only children.
One-to-one therapy. We have a staff of more than 60 therapists, so each child receives personal, individual attention.
The newest equipment. All our therapy equipment is state-of-the-art with much of it designed especially for children.
Convenience. Children receive all the therapy services they need at one location. St. Charles treats infants and children through age 18 with complex chronic illnesses, disabilities and congenital conditions. Commonly treated conditions include:
Traumatic Brain Injuries
Neuromuscular Conditions (cerebral palsy, stroke)
Spinal Cord Injuries
The experts at St. Charles use a family-centered approach to rehabilitation. Parents are recognized as an integral member of the health care team and are highly encouraged to be directly involved in their child's care. The rehabilitation team is led by a pediatric physiatrist (a physician specializing in pediatric rehabilitation medicine) and includes physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, rehabilitation nurses, social workers, and psychologists. With your input, the team coordinates a wide range of medical, therapeutic and supportive services for your child that are administered through a customized treatment program.
