St. Charles Among First Hospitals in the Nation to Receive Award from the American Culinary Federation

St. Charles is one of two hospitals in the nation to earn an Achievement of Excellence award from the American Culinary Federation. The award recognizes the hospital’s food and beverage program for demonstrated excellence and passion for the culinary arts.

St. Charles distinguishes itself among hospitals by delivering highly customized, hotel-style room service where patients call and order what they’d like to eat, when they want it. All food, including salads, sandwiches, pastas, and home-style favorites, are made from scratch with only the highest quality, fresh ingredients.

“For many people food is love, so during this critical time in their lives we want to give them meals they like, which are both comforting and delicious.  I am especially proud of our chefs and the entire nutritional services team. They consistently provide our patients, employees, and visitors with culinary experiences that are truly “WOW” moments,” said Stephanie Giraulo, director, Nutritional Services.

Bill Doughtery, executive chef, St. Charles, and creator of the room service menu, added, “We are thrilled and honored to have been chosen by ACF, which is considered ‘The Authority on Cooking in America.’ Our nutritional services team has defied the old cliché that hospital food is subpar, while our commitment to freshness and quality has shown that hospital food can rank right up there with that of well-regarded restaurants.”

Mr. Doughtery and Ms. Giraulo will accept the award on behalf of St. Charles during ACF’s National Conference this July in Orlando, Florida.

The American Culinary Federation is a professional organization for chefs and cooks.  The organization’s goals are based on promoting the professional image of American chefs worldwide through education of culinarians at all levels.  ACF is the largest professional chefs organization in North America and is made up of more than 20,000 members who belong to more than 200 chapters in four regions across the United States.  In previous years, Achievement of Excellence award recipients have included numerous fine-dining establishments, hospitality properties such as the Ritz-Carlton in Naples, Florida, and the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center.
