First Baby in 2012 at St. Charles

It’s a Girl – the first baby born at St. Charles in 2012: Charles Hospital welcomed its first baby of the year at 8:16 a.m. on January 1, 2012.  Rachael Allison Johnson, daughter of Robert and Jan Johnson of Patchogue was delivered by Jerry Ninia, MD, and weighed in at 7 lbs. 8 oz.

The Johnsons did not expect to spend New Year’s Day at St. Charles Hospital.  With a c-section scheduled for later in the week, they anticipated a quiet start to 2012 with several days left to prepare for the arrival of little Rachael.  However, early on New Year’s Day Mrs. Johnson went into labor and all the planning went out the window as the Johnsons headed to St. Charles.

This is the second daughter for Robert and Jan Johnson.  Big sister Rebecca, five years old, is waiting at home to welcome Rachael.  As parents of the first baby of 2012 at St. Charles, the hospital presented the Johnsons with a gift basket.

Nearly 2,000 babies are delivered at St. Charles each year.  The maternity department includes 6 state-of-the-art birthing rooms and 22 maternity beds.  Additionally, St. Charles’s level II neonatal unit includes 6 neonatology bassinets and is staffed with skilled neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners, insuring the highest level of treatment for newborns requiring special care.
